I work with children

The Dudley Safeguarding Children Board is responsible for making sure individuals and organisations represented on the board such as the police, Fire Service, NHS, Dudley Council, voluntary sector organisations, the ambulance service and schools etc. safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in Dudley.

The board manages this process by developing and implementing safeguarding policies, offering safeguarding training, promoting campaigns to safeguard children, sharing best practice and making sure lessons are learnt from Serious Case Reviews.

The aim of this site is to provide and share information to assist professionals in safeguarding children and young people.

Online Training

Dudley Safeguarding Children Board has commissioned a series of online learning modules through a partnership with the Virtual College.

This is by no means a substitute for attending traditional training courses but is provided to support your learning and ensure everyone has the opportunity to access the necessary training.

There are six modules in total:

•Introduction to safeguarding children

•Foundation: awareness of child abuse or neglect

•Core: awareness of child abuse or neglect

•Awareness of child abuse and neglect – young people

•Awareness of child abuse and neglect – core police version

•Think safe, stay safe, be safe

Charging Policy

Dudley Safeguarding Children Board is committed to ensuring that staff from all member agencies have access to good quality training, which is free wherever possible.

However, the delivery of an extensive training programme is costly, both financially and in terms of human resources.

The vast majority of training is delivered by locally accredited trainers working within the statutory and voluntary sector, the remainder of the programme is commissioned through external trainers who cost between £400-500 per day.

The majority of the programme is currently funded by agencies of the safeguarding board, most of who make relatively small contributions to the training & development budget.  However this is inadequate in fully meeting the actual costs of the programme.

The training & development sub-committee is responsible for the development and monitoring of the multi-agency training programme. In response to issues such as non-attendance, costs of trainers and venues, and the need to evaluate the quality of the training a charging policy was introduced.

All income generated is utilised to maintain and expand the training programme.
