Posted on:

Black Country Women’s Aid have received further government funding to continue to deliver the Our Future Service until March 2021.

Our Future Service offers a range of support for children and young people 5 – 18 years, to help them deal effectively with witnessing or experience domestic abuse. This support includes:

  • Advice and support to schools on risk assessment, the effect of domestic abuse on children, and helping children to feel safe and engaged at school;
  • Direct support for children following notification of domestic abuse incidents, including one to one support and advocacy;
    Group support programmes tailored to a range of ages;
  • Awareness raising and prevention work for children and young people.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, all support is currently being offered remotely via telephone or Microsoft Teams where appropriate. Our Future Service are able to conduct 1:1 sessions in school with social distancing measures in place, if the children are still attending school. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, they are also offering support throughout the summer holidays.

In addition to this, Our Future Service are offering a Weekly Quiz and Competitions for children and young people to participate in throughout the summer holidays. This will be available via their social media channels.

Group Sessions in school and training to professionals on the Impact of Domestic Violence on Children and Young People, will be available once restrictions are relaxed.

Normal service will resume once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
