The Local Authority Desigated Officer's role is to offer guidance and support when an allegation is made against any adult who comes into contact with children in either a paid or unpaid capacity. The DSL/Proprietor/Employer/Governor MUST contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) within 1 (one) working day.

DSL Training

Newly Appointment 2.5 Day DSL Training

A new training package started in September 2019 with a 2.5 day DSL training for new in post DSL's, being held at Saltwells EDC, Netherton.

The course will be held over 2 full days and a half day and staff need to attend all three sessions in order to obtain their certification. Registration will be 15 minutes before commencement of the course.

The DSL Refresher course is held at Saltwells EDC, Netherton starting in September 2019. The course will run from 9.00am - 3.30pm with registration at 8.45am.

Governor Training

Safeguarding is a prominent theme in the work of schools and this is reflected in a focus on this important area during inspections and monitoring visits. Children and young people's safety and welfare are of the highest importance to all of us.

Governing boards are required to identify a lead governor for child protection.

An Introduction to Safeguarding for Governors.

This course is intended for: New Governors and any experienced Governors that may require a refresher.

Training session will include:

National Legislation re safeguarding / types of abuse, handling disclosures, referral processes re Early Help / Child in Need and Child Protection, Management of Allegations and Whistleblowing, Safer Working Practices.

The Safeguarding in Education Conference will take place on Tuesday 10th December 2019 from 9.30am to 3.30pm - the agenda for the conference will follow. Section 157 / 175 Audit

s175/s157 Schools/Colleges Safeguarding Audit

In relation to section 175/157 of Education Act 2002 Local Authorities require school governing bodies, local education authorities and further education institutions to make arrangements to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Audits will be commissioned by the DMBC bi-annually.

The final date Dudley schools’ and DSCB will have access to the s175/s157 audit platform is 31 August 2019.

Please make sure, if you haven’t already, to print off a hard copy of your audit results and any action plan asap (before the deadline date of 31.08.19 as you will no longer be able to access the platform after this date).
